By Alex Ibeh
The Imo State House of Assembly has decried the deplorable state of Roads in the State, urging the Governor Senator Hope Uzidimma to direct the Ministry of works to do palliative rehabilitation of Ngor-Okpala/Aboh Mbaise/Ezinihitte Mbaise /Ahiazu Mbaise/Ehime Mbano road before the rainy season.
This follows a motion moved at the floor of the Chamber by the member representing Ezinihitte Mbaise Hon. Henry Agbasonu of the All Progressive Congress(APC) on Tuesday 20th February, 2024.
In the motion, the lawmaker hinted that the road cuts across five local Government Areas, adding that the road has been in very deplorable condition since the time of Achike Udenwa, the former of State Governor.
He pointed out that Commercial activities have been negatively affected thereby militating against the economic growth of the area.
The Legislator who briefed Imo Assembly Correspondence shortly after the plenary in his office exclaimed that the road is in the state of “ntoor” meaning sorry state.
He however lamented that farmers found it challenging to convey their farm produce from the local area to urban areas to increase the food shortage in the city.
According to him, when we were too young then living in Aba with my parents, when we play the road on our way home, the road was in worthy condition but since 1999 till date very nasty to behold.
Successive Governments had promised to rehabilitate the road but to no avail.
He therefore expressed optimism that the present Governor Senator Hope Uzidimma would consider the people of Mbaise for the overwhelming support given to him during the last election.
The motion which garnered overwhelming support from other members of the House was adopted as the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe and member representing Ihitte Uboma State Constituency directed the clerk of the House to transmit the resolution of the house to the Governor for onward action
