Barr. Ngozi Olehi, SAN, a legal Luminary has taken swipe towards the political practice in Nigeria, saying that corruption is Institutionalized in the country.
He stated this weekend in Owerri, IMO State while celebrating his Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) new status which he was elevated recently.
Olehi decried the level of dishonesty among the political class and the electorate, adding that the practice lead to electing double-dealing leaders into power.
According to him, with this scenario, electorates leave the Judiciary with no option than to give judgment on the account of available evidence.
Barr. Olehi who was recently elevated to as the Senior Advocate of Nigeria(SAN) regretted that money politics in Nigeria just as he accused electorates of promoting electoral sharp practice in the country.
“setting the records straight. It’s the electorates that should be blamed for electing the wrong leaders, and not the judiciary as so many people have come to believe. The judiciary is not God to have been able to know what is going on during an election.
“My expectation is that the voters or electorates to vote the people of their choice and be able to protect their votes by probably getting the actual figures at every polling unit as evidence to pursue their matters in court. But unfortunately, what you see during elections is a situation where everybody is looking for where money is shared and votes are given freely in lieu of peanuts.
“If the electorates can come up with a strong case with powerful evidence of an election that is wrongly declared, the judiciary should not be blamed if justice is not allowed to prevail. The judiciary deals on available evidence, and not the feelings of the people,” he said
