IMHA: Majority leader explains reason for Imo Poly merger, as legislation to boost electricity passed into law

Majority leader of Imo State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi while briefing Journalists in his office shortly after Plenary on Tuesday 30th April,2024 explained why the State government merged three searchlight campuses to Omuma in Oru east local government Area, Imo State.
This follows an Executive bill, for law to amend the Imo State Polytechnic law(Law No. 25 of 2012), presented by the Majority leader, Rt. Hon. Rt. Kanayo Onyemaechi at the floor of the House.
In the same vein, another bill passed into law is a bill for a law to make provisions for an improved Electricity Generation, Transmission and Distribution within and for the residents of Imo State. More in the bill was a law to establish an Electricity Market in Imo State for reliability and sustainable supply within Imo State, for Enforcement of consumers Rights and Obligations and for connected purposes presented by Hon. Obinna Egu, member representing Ngor Okpala State Constituency.
At press time, Onyemaechi, took time to explain the importance of the bill.
Onyemaechi elaborated on the relevance, saying the the bill establishing Imo Polytechnic needed an amendment because according to him, the campus at Umuma in Oru east requires a unified learning environment.
He said: “The Imo Polytechnic situate at Omuma and annexed in Orlu and Ehime Mbano Local government Area of Imo State respectively constituted some learning challenges. “One those centres were donated by Catholic Church and they have decided to take back their property. “So the government of Imo State deemed it necessary to return all the annexed campuses to Omuma for a conducive learning environment.
In that case, it will bring their administrative running.
“In the appointment of Deputy Rector of the Polytechnic, a tenure is two years but the Governor out of grace reappointed him or her, he has a limit of two terms for four years.”
