Emenike, other State Commissioners for Environment meet in Abuja over erosion menace

Imo State Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Barr. Sir Ejikeme Major Emenike has joined other State Commissioners for Environment to address the challenges of erosion and mitigate its vulnerability in the State.

According to the release, the Hon. Commissioner for Environment & Sanitation, Sir (Barr.) Ejikeme Major Emenike alongside other State Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries for Environment and State Cordinators the European Investment Bank (EIB) funded Nigeria Erosion and Water Shed Mgt. Project (NEWMAP) held an interactive meeting with the donors (UNIOPS and EIB) in Abuja.

It was further disclosed that Major Emenike collaborated the presentation made by by the State Acting Coordinator of NEWMAP EIB, Mr Onyeocha U. J. as he gave assurances of the commitment of the State Governor ,His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma to the Project, especially in the payment of the required counterpart contribution.

The Hon. Minister of Environment Balarabe Abbas Lawal who was represented at the occasion by the Minister for State, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, urged the European Investment Bank(EIB)and the United Nations Office for project Services ( UNIOP) team to avoid further delay in commencing the Project.

The Chairperson of the Commissioners of Environment of all states,Eleru Tosin Aluko, was also in attendance.

The project development objective is aimed at reducing vulnerability to soil erosion in targeted sub watersheds.

The Objective of Meeting was to confirm the update and readiness of the participating States’ Project Implementation Units (PIUs) and their States towards disbursement effectiveness.
