Detribalized Yoruba philanthropist empowers Women in Imo
By Alex Ibeh
In a bid to give back to the society, a detribalized Yoruba philanthropist, Dr. Adedeji Osinowo has been empowering indigent Women in Imo State for the past five years.
The most recent was the empowerment of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Women in Owerri Municipal Council on Friday 2nd August, 2024.
The Women who throng from different wards of the Municipality received their gifts
which included food stuffs and largasse among other items.
Speaking to our Correspondent, Deji said humanitarian service is a passion to him.
According to him, “I have been doing this for the past five years. Next month, I have a scholarship awards to present in Lagos. It may surprise you that I don’t even know their parents of the beneficiaries. I don’t know where they come from. It is my foundation Church. I took it upon myself to help the indigent Women in the society who do not have anyone to assist them.”
Dr. Adedeji Osinowo who is vying for the position of the Vice Chairman for Owerri Municipal Council said the Yoruba Community has been neglected in the state, adding that it is time they made a statement.
The Enyioha Okpoefe Bobagunwa of Yoruba Community continued, “we really want to make a statement because the Yorubas have endured for over the past 25 years in the Municipal, Since the emergence of Owerri Municipal Council, we have Owerri Nchi Ise, other Igbo Populace, Hausa Community and Yoruba Community.
The none Indigenes are mearnt to vie for the position of Vice Chairman which the Yorubas have been denied for over 25 years. And whem you talk about the major ethnic groups in Nigeria, you talk of Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo.
In Owerri Municipal, if you say an Umuahia man is a none Indigene, it does make any difference. So if you want talk about none indigene, you talk about Hausa and Yoruba and the Hausas have been favoured so much in this state while the Yorubas have been neglected.
I told my self that its high time we came out and make a difference. I stand for freedom. We are leaned and resourceful people. We are not troublesome. We go on our way and do our business. We have been here for over two decades. My family and business are here. I am an Architect by profession.”
He however noted that giving to the society is the only means of fighting against youth restiveness and insecurity in the country. This is even as he pointed out that he has benefitted from Imo State.
“Imo state has given me shelter and this is the reason I want to serve the people to reciprocate that gestures.
“I follow God’s instruction, i dont make noise. The only way to build a better Nigeria is to give back to the society for the downtrodden to feel the impact of the Commonwealth,” he submitted.
