NIMET seeks Collaboration with Ministry of Environment to improve Weather Condition in Imo

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) has sought the collaboration of the Ministry of Environment and Sanitation to improve the living standard of the people in Imo State.
The Station Manager in the State Mr Francis IKwen who led a delegation from the Agency to pay a courtesy call on the Commissioner, Barr. Major Ejikeme Emenike in his Office at the State Secretariat on Wednesday 13th March, 2025 disclosed that Weather Variation has been a major Concern to mankind.
Ikwem noted that Weather plays a pivotal role on the Environment, adding that the Agency is on 24-hour Weather Surveillance and Climate monitoring as it affects the Environment.
“We monitor both climate change and variation while focusing on Environment and in view of the fact that Weather plays a part on the Environment from the plants to our lives generally”.
He also hinted that the Agency has started work on monitoring the hazards which associates with water in relation to the Environment.
According to him, the essence of the visit is to seek for Collaboration with a view to giving you Weather information and for positive working relationship.
In his remarks, Barr. Major Emenike, the Commissioner commended the Agency for the work they are doing especially at the Airport as it relates to Weather forecast.
He recalled that the Ministry has been in working relationship with NIMET because according to him, both have something in common.
The Commissioner acknowledged their insights in other Environmental fields, saying that the Ministry would look into their submissions and come up with a framework to synergize with the Agency.
He used the occasion to inform them about the Ministry’s Annex at Aladinma axis called NIDO Laboratory Complex where they have Weather monitoring device but, regretted that the equipments had been vandalized by miscreants and carted them away.
Meanwhile, the team led by the Permanent Secretary Pastry. Chukwuma Iheanacho visited the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Environmental Laboratory Center at Aladinma layout as he conducted them round the Complex.
Iheanacho noted that the set up was in collaboration with UNIDO as a center of Excellence, adding that one of the components of the place is Weather Station to measure Weather parameters.
He welcome any form of Partnership to revitalized the moribund equipments for a higher Job Satisfaction.
According to him, the cooperation will foster weather monitoring relationship and tend to be more productive and efficiency.
